kercoonda

Kercoonda is situated in Barmera, South Australia, that is just a 2½ hour drive on the A20 Sturt Highway north east of Adelaide.

The name "Kercoonda" means "dwelling place near water".

juda George Robert Lambert physically built Kercoonda in the 1960's on the last remaining block of land in the front row, giving the beautiful view of Lake Bonney, in the Riverland.

Mr Lambert, a farmer from Auburn (just south of the Clare Valley) wanted a safe holiday destination for his family. In 1986, freehold purchase was offered to all "shack" owners. The Lambert family, who had enjoyed many years holidaying at Lake Bonney, took up the offer.

Water sports, including skiing were the main activity during the early years, where many young people learnt to ski behind George's boat "Juda II".

The original boat shed with it's large metal door is now the lovely Queen bedroom.
The family used Kercoonda as a holiday home until late 2002, when his daughter Julie Anne and son-in-law Neville decided to open the door to tourists and visitors to share the comforts of Kercoonda and enjoy the peace and quiet of the area.
